Why What You Have Is NOT A Business

In this free video Dan Kennedy points out that the media you market through is NOT a business.

He talks about how many people thought television infomercials were a business in the early days and now nearly all of those companies have disappeared.

And he warns that the internet is not a business, direct mail is not a business, television advertising is not a business...



I would also add that a retail store is not a business either...it's simply a lead generation method.

You pay rent and set up a retail location so you can sell products to the people who pass by your store.

If you're smart you capture the contact details of your prospects and customers and follow up with them using other media.



So if all these things aren't businesses what does a business consist of?

The most important asset in any business is trust you've built in a group of clients and prospects.

And there's a hint there.

A business really consists of a group of prospects and clients who trust you enough that you can market your products and/or services to them.

And to be a long term profitable business you must have easy access to that group through multiple channels.

So if you want to build a thriving business you should focus heavily on capturing the full contact details of all your prospects and clients so you can get in touch with them at will in a variety of ways...email, phone, mail, fax, text, in person at their home and their business, at special events etc etc.

And you should also focus on building that key trust so you can maintain a long term relationship that's profitable for both of you.
